“Ben Simmons has the tools to be like LeBron James”: Danny Green plays down comparisons between Lakers MVP and Sixers star
‘It’s unfair to compare anybody to LeBron James’: Danny Green talks about the Ben Simmons – LeBron James comparisons.
On Wednesday night, Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers played off against each other. Post the match, Philadelphia shooter Danny Green was asked for his views on the comparisons between LeBron James and Ben Simmons.
Simmons has been performing ordinarily, averaging 12.8 points, 8.4 rebounds and 7.9 assists this season. He’s definitely no LeBron James, but the two do share some similarities with each other. LeBron himself anointed Simmons as the ‘Young King’ in his rookie year.
The 24-year old Simmons recorded a 17-point triple-double, helping the 76ers defeat the Lakers 107-106. Despite LeBron’s 34-point performance, the best team of the East got the last laugh.
‘He has the tools and potential to be that’: Danny Green acknowledges the potential of Ben Simmons
Danny Green has played with LeBron James twice. Once was during his 2019-2020 campaign with the Lakers on their way to win the NBA title. He called the comparisons ‘just a bit much’ and he said:
“I see why there’s a comparison. Obviously, LeBron is one of the greatest to ever do it and Ben has the potential given the size, ability, and speed, but it’s unfair. It’s unfair to compare anybody to LeBron or compare anybody to Michael Jordan, especially at a young age.”
“Ben is still learning the game and he’s still very good, but he still has a long way to go if he wants to be in that realm. This is an unfair comparison for anybody, let alone Ben, but he has the tools and the potential to be that.”

It’s clear that Simmons has the size and skill set to reach LeBron’s level. However, he needs to continue to work on his game for this remote possibility to materialize.
