Jason Roy injury: Why is Roy not playing today’s BBL 10 Challenger between Perth Scorchers and Brisbane Heat?
Why is Jason Roy not playing: Perth Scorchers have taken the field in a virtual semi-final match without their star batsman.
During the Challenger match of the ongoing 10th season of the Big Bash League between Perth Scorchers and Brisbane Heat in Canberra, Perth Scorchers have taken the field without their star opening batsman Jason Roy.
It was Brisbane Heat captain Chris Lynn who had won the bat flip and invited Scorchers in to bat. Coming on the back of two consecutive victories, Heat haven’t made any change to their Playing XI.
Scorchers, on the other hand, have had to make a solitary change to their XI in a bid to replace Roy. Batsman Cameron Bancroft, who has scored 68 runs in five innings at a strike rate of 115.25 in the middle-order this season, has been recalled into the XI as an opener.
Why is Jason Roy not playing today’s BBL 10 Challenger in Canberra?
Speaking to Fox Cricket before the match at the Manuka Oval, Scorchers fast bowler Andrew Tye revealed that Roy had been ruled out due to an ankle injury suffered during training.
“Running around in the field the other day, he went to turn and just went over on his ankle. It’s a bit of a bummer. Hopefully, it’s not too bad and if we make the final, he’s there beside us,” Tye told Fox Cricket.
Being asked about Roy during the bat flip, Perth captain Ashton Turner didn’t rule out the possibility of the right-hand batsman playing the final match provided they beat Heat tonight.
“We’re monitoring him [Jason Roy] and hopefully, if tonight goes well, we might be a chance to see him again in orange this year,” Turner was quoted as saying by Fox Cricket.
