“Mavericks need someone like Bradley Beal or Russell Westbrook”: Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal takes ridiculous shots at Luka Doncic, says he can’t power a championship team
Shaquille O’Neal believes the Mavs need someone ‘better than Luka Doncic’ to win big. Someone like Russell Westbrook or Bradley Beal, apparently.
The Mavs hosted the 11-10 Warriors at the American Airlines Center in downtown Dallas tonight. They look set to lose this game, after being unable to stop the Warriors’ 3rd quarter offensive explosion despite their size. They engaged in a shooting competition with a small-ball team, yielding disastrous results.
One would’ve thought that the Mavs’ defense is improved with the acquisition of Josh Richardson. But that seems hardly to be case, as Kelly Oubre had a long-awaited offensive explosion. He made 7 3-pointers and had 40 points on the night with over 4:00 remaining in the 4th. He capped it off with a huge block on Boban in garbage time.
Before the game, broadcast on TNT, the Inside the NBA crew debated why the Mavs are 4 wins below .500 right now. The issue of Luka’s supporting cast and their availability came up. But Shaq had a different idea to bring to the table – get rid of Luka!
What Shaquille O’Neal said about Luka Doncic
Shaquille O’Neal came up with a rank bad take on the Mavs. He believes they need somebody who can direct their offense apparently better than their Slovenian sensation:
“They need a guy that’s just as good as Luka but a little bit better…like a Bradley Beal or Russell Westbrook.”

Even by Shaq’s standards, this is a ridiculously bad take. The Mavs would probably be 2-19 without Luka on their side to start the season off. If he had any kind of consistent support from his team, Luka might actually have gotten MVP consideration this year. The Wizards are worse off than the Mavs right now despite being in the East.
