“Clippers to trade Lou Williams or Patrick Beverley”: Rumors linking point guards to a move from Los Angeles are gathering steam
Rumors linking Patrick Beverley and Lou Williams are now abounding faster than ever. The Clippers will be looking for a true playmaker.
Lou Williams is, statistically speaking, not the player that he was a season or two back. 26 games into this year, Sweet Lou is averaging his lowest figures since his 3rd season in the league. Much of this can be attributed to his dwindling minutes totals.
Patrick Beverley was having a fine season till he got injured two weeks ago. It is unclear when the Clippers and Ty Lue can expect their specialist lockdown guard defender back. But until then, the Clippers will have to cope by playing Luke Kennard for more minutes.
In Beverley’s absence, Reggie Jackson has moved into a starting role. Jackson also doesn’t seem to be fitting all that well, which is why there is no market for him.
What can the Clippers get in a trade for Lou Williams or Patrick Beverley?
Throughout this short season, murmurs of the Clippers acquiring a true point guard have been doing the rounds. But as currently constructed, they will have to add a player or two to a trade involving Lou or Beverley if they want a real playmaker.
Ricky Rubio is one of those players who fit the bill eminently well. Stuck on a basement team in Minnesota, Rubio would give the Clippers some instant offense. He’s also a pretty good defender, and is still smack in the middle of his prime at the age of 30.
Beverley and Lou are 32 and 34 years old respectively, and are known quantities at this point. If the Wolves do acquire one or both of them, they’re likely to waive them and allow them to chase a ring with some other team.
