“I know Charles and George did GP3” – F3 champion Oscar Piastri wants immediate promotion to Formula 1 by winning F2 this season
“I know Charles and George did GP3” – F3 champion Oscar Piastri is targeting a seat in Formula 1 next season by lifting the F2 crown this season, like Leclerc and Russell.
Oscar Piastri is living a dream these days. After winning the F3 title, he will now race in F2 with the same team Prema. Prema is the team with which Mick Schumacher won the F2 title and is now a Haas F1 driver.
As for Piatri, he hopes he can replicate Charles Leclerc and George Russell and win F2 and directly make it to Formula 1. To help him with this, Piatri is now an Alpine Academy Driver. This could potentially see him replace Esteban Ocon if he does get into the pinnacle of motorsports.
Alpine appears closer than ever to achieving its goal of promoting one of its talents into #F1 with a trio of Academy members in F2 – but what are Guanyu Zhou, Christian Lundgaard and Oscar Piastri’s chances of graduation? https://t.co/SNYoWm13wt

“Our initial plan was to do two years of F3 but we smashed that one out of the park. I know Charles and George did GP3, F2, and went straight to F1 so I would like to think that if I can get the F2 title as well, hopefully, I can follow in their footsteps. But I’m just staying focused on F2 and if that does happen then that’s a bonus.”
Oscar Piastri wary of teammate Robert Shwartzman
Prema has the 2019 and 2020 F3 champions this season in F2, in the form of Robert Shwartzman and Piastri. The Russian was considered to be a Haas driver alongside Schumacher, but Nikita Mazepin edged out. Piastri, on his part, is aware his teammate is the favourite for the F2 crown.
“I haven’t really set too many specific goals. Obviously, I’ve got a very strong team-mate in Robert Shwartzman with me so I expect him to be challenging for the title. If I can be matching him or beating him more often than not then I will be in a very good place in the championship.
“Obviously, I would like to get a pole position and a win. I got a win in F3 but never got a pole so that would be something nice to add but nothing too specific.”
