“Every year it’s the same”- Former F1 driver on Red Bull car presentation
“Every year it’s the same”- Former Formula 1 driver Giedo van der Garde talks about how all cars look the same during the presentation.
Red Bull on Tuesday presented its RB16B, which will be its product for 2021. The car looks identical to its predecessor from 2020, and on social media, Red Bull was subject to the scrutiny of memes thrown by the fans.
However, former F1 driver Giedo van der Garde feels that it is an illusion of the presentation. It is the same story every year, where cars look similar to the former self, but people spot differences during the test sessions.
“It looks a bit the same as last year’s car. Of course, every year, it’s the same with these presentations. It’s fun, and they get some media attention, but at the test, in Bahrain, all the cars look different,” Van der Garde explained to Motorsport.com.
Though Christian Horner, in the late months of 2020, confessed that the 2021 Red Bull carry over 60 percent of the previous car, and that is because of the aerodynamics freeze this year.
Max Verstappen will benefit from Sergio Perez.
While explaining the confirmed upgrades by Red Bull, Garde has also pointed out that Max Verstappen could benefit from a partner like Sergio Perez, who is experienced and proved his talent.
“I am hopeful. Of course, they started testing with the new floor early on, so they have a lot of data from that anyway. They also say they changed some things in the wind tunnel, so the correlation is better now,” Van der Garde continued.
“And Max has the big advantage this year of having a good teammate in Perez, who he can really use,” he concluded. Meanwhile, Red Bull, with its new team member Perez, flexed RB15 at Silverstone on Tuesday.
