“In Maranello, they are positive”- Antonio Giovinazzi confirms that Ferrari made strides in power unit development in 2021.

Ferrari had a tough performative year in 2020, as they ended P6 on the table, but this year, the Italian outfit is eyeing a leap to P3 and be back in contention for the title in 2022.

One of Ferrari’s biggest failures in 2020 was its underwhelming power unit, and it has been backed by Alfa Romeo race driver and Ferrari academy product Antonio Giovinazzi, as the Italian confirms the engine this year has been improved.

“In Maranello, they are positive. We don’t know how much we will gain, especially because we don’t know how much the others improved. The good thing is that at Ferrari, there is a positive atmosphere, especially for the power unit,” said Giovinazzi to RTL.

Giovinazzi is going to race for Alfa Romeo this year, and they released their 2021 car on Monday. Ferrari’s sister team has vowed to be with the Maranello based team for the coming year.

Alfa Romeo confident about the power unit

It’s not only Giovinazzi who has been positive about Ferrari’s power unit but also the sister team, Alfa Romeo, as the team boss Frederic Vasseur tipped an improvement in the power unit.

Moreover, they are also positive about making personal improvements in 2021. Last year, Alfa Romeo finished P8, and this year would be aiming to close down against Alpha Tauri.

Kimi Raikkonen would be partnering with Giovinazzi for the third year in a row, though the latter is aiming a move to Ferrari in the coming years.

Others expecting improvements too

It is not only Ferrari’s camp that is predicting a comeback for Ferrari this year, but also other teams who have already admitted that Ferrari’s drastic improvement will not be a surprise.

However, the Maranello based outfit is believing in baby steps and aspires for no rush in 2021. They still don’t find title contention realistic for this year, at least.
