“I was very scared of Rudy Gobert, as you can see”: Joel Embiid silences critics with his impressive 40-19 performance, leading Sixers to an overtime win over the Jazz
Joel Embiid fired back at critics who questioned his performances against big-name centers. The Cameroonian dominated Rudy Gobert last night.
On Wednesday night, Embiid had an absolutely fantastic performance in the 131-123 overtime win against the Utah Jazz. His 40 points and 19 rebounds double-double, helped him lead his team to victory over the team with the best record in the league.
The 7-foot Cameroonian usually takes criticism personally. At this instance, Joel was called ‘scared’ for facing the two-time Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert. Embiid made sure that he played well in this particular game so that he could fire back at the reporters who called him ‘scared’. He had to prove them wrong.
After his commanding game-winning performance, the 26-year-old big man made sure he was heard. He sarcastically fired back at the reporters:
“According to reports, I’m scared of the Jazz and I’m scared of top centers. As we saw tonight, it looks like I was very, very scared of them, so yeah, keep talking.”
After going for 40 and 19 against Rudy Gobert, Joel Embiid:
— Said he wants to “destroy everything in my path”
— Reiterated he wants to win DPOY
— Called people out for saying he was “scared” of facing Gobert. “As we saw tonight, it looks like I was very, very scared of him.”— Tim Bontemps (@TimBontemps) March 4, 2021
‘We have a great team’: Joel Embiid
Embiid stated how being snubbed from last season’s MVP and DPOY considerations, added fuel to play well this season. Joel, indeed, has been proving all his critics wrong. In his postgame interview he added:
“Those matchups you want to go out there and just dominate, and prove to everybody that, as a team that we have a great team, and then individually, that I should be up there when it comes to those rankings and stuff. So hopefully that can clear that up with the reporters.”

Joel has stuck true to the name given to him – ‘The Process’. He truly has come a long way since his initial years in the league. The team which barely made the playoffs now is an actual title-contender all thanks to Joel Embiid’s dominant game-style.
