“I airballed because of an earthquake in San Francisco”: Kyle Kuzma hilariously explains his atrocious technical free throw attempt in the Lakers’ blowout win over Steph Curry and the Warriors

Kyle Kuzma provides a hilarious reason as to why he airballed his free throw against the Warriors and his role with the Lakers without AD. 

The Los Angeles Lakers faced off against the Golden State Warriors yet again last night, where the Warriors looked to exact revenge on LeBron James and co after suffering an embarrassing loss to them a few nights prior.

Despite Steph Curry’s emotional plea to his Warriors teammates to try harder in their previous encounter, nothing much changed as the Lakers trucked on through the Dubs yet again. 

The loss may have not been as entertaining as hoped, but it did bring about hilarious moments such as LeBron James’s hard screen on rookie Nico Mannion. However, the moment that takes the cake in this game would have to be Kyle Kuzma’s free throw attempt. 

After James Wiseman picked up a technical foul, Kuzma took to the charity stripe to knock down the free throw. This didn’t go as planned however, as he missed everything but the air on the attempt.

Kyle Kuzma provides his reasoning for missing the free throw

His abysmal attempt at the free throw caused the Warriors bench to erupt in laughter and Kuzma himself couldn’t help but laugh at it in the moment and after the game. Rachel Nichols says that Kyle Kuzma’s hilarious reasoning behind the moment was due to an earthquake in San Francisco. 

Putting hilarity to the side, Kuzma further opened up about his increased role with the team ever since Anthony Davis went down with an injury. He says that he enjoys being more of a vocal leader in AD’s absence and hopes to have this role carry over into the games where Davis is back on the court.

More seriously, he also notes that AD having to sit injured has forced him to be more of a vocal leader, and Kuzma hopes it carries over to when Davis is back on the court.

The fourth-year forward has been having a great year for the Lakers. Even though his scoring average is the lowest it’s been in his professional career, this is somehow his best year. This is due to the fact that he is a more willing passer now, defends with intention, and has been the Lakers’ best rebounder since the Anthony Davis injury.
