“They want to make more money”- Max Verstappen spots commercial interests of Formula 1 by making the weekend more exciting.
Max Verstappen has constantly shown his reservations against Formula 1 introducing the sprint races into the Grand Prix weekends, as he claims that the competition shall depend on meritocracy.
“The fastest cars are at the front anyway, so that remains a bit the same. It does not matter how many competitions you organize at the weekend. I like one long race a lot more,” he said to the Telegraaf.
He has also accused F1 of emancipating their commercial interests by introducing sprint racing, as the current schedule is boring until the qualification happens.
“If you just create good cars and you can follow the car in front of you much better and make overtaking actions, then you don’t need any of these things.”
“Although I think there is more to this idea than just making racing better. They want more action during the weekend. Now it is generally a bit boring on Friday and Saturday until qualifying.”
“They want to attract more people to the circuit and thus make more money. After all, that’s what it’s all about. And I can understand that too.”
Max Verstappen to make an impactful start
Red Bull showed promises during the pre-season testing in Bahrain, opposite to their fierce rivals Mercedes. Thus, it has been predicted that the Dutchman may win the first Grand Prix of the season in Bahrain.
On the other hand, there is much excitement over his new teammate Sergio Perez marking his debut for the Milton-Keynes based team. While Red Bull’s future might be looking bright, Verstappen is trying to reduce the hype.
The 23-year-old recently accused Mercedes of sandbagging during the pre-season testing and hide their actual capabilities.
