‘LaMelo Ball, get well soon young fella’: Former NBA champion Kendrick Perkins wishes the Hornets rookie a quick recovery from his season-ending wrist injury

LaMelo Ball has been diagnosed with a season-ending wrist fracture, much to the dismay of Kendrick Perkins. The former Celtic wished him well.

On Sunday night, Ball and Co. were hosted by Kawhi Leonard and the Clippers. Los Angeles Clippers managed to grab a very comfortable 125-98 win over Michael Jordan’s Hornets. But what was horrifying for Charlotte was that their rookie LaMelo sustained a wrist injury.

During the second quarter of the match, the 6-foot-6 combo guard went down with an unfortunate wrist injury. The 19-year-old did manage to return back to the court after his injury but eventually departed in the fourth quarter.

Former NBA champion  Kendrick Perkins was one of the many veterans who was impressed by the rookie. As Melo suffered this unlucky injury, Perkins conveyed his wishes to Melo for a speedy recovery. Kendrick tweeted:

“LaMelo Ball being out for the year is a blow to the NBA. Injuries are apart of the game but the young fella had Charlotte rockin! Get well soon!”

LaMelo Ball is getting a second opinion on his injury

According to ESPN analyst Adrian Wojnarowski, the fracture was in Ball’s thumb area. It is certain that the LaMelo would be missing the remainder of the 2020-2021 season. Woj also revealed that Ball will be meeting with one of the top specialists for hand injuries. He tweeted:

“Ball’s meeting early this week with Dr Michelle Carlson at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, one of the top specialists for hand injuries.”

Charlotte guard LaMelo Ball — rookie of the year frontrunner — is expected to miss the rest of the season with a fracture to his right wrist, source tells ESPN. He’s seeking a second opinion to confirm the diagnosis.

Lonzo’s younger brother was definitely one of the best rookies in the whole class. Despite the criticism he received before being drafted, he proved all his doubters wrong this season.

Averaging a staggering 15.9 points, 6.1 assists, and 5.9 rebounds per game, LaMelo was the front runner for the Rookie of the Year honors this season. Melo had a big role in Charlotte’s jump from last season’s 10th seed to a much better 5th seed this season.

It’s extremely sad that a player as impactful as the Hornets’ guard has a season-ending injury, so early in his career. Let’s hope Ball is able to get back on the court in no time and continue to be the star he was turning into.
