Chairman of selectors is looking for new middle order batsmen
When you look down the Indian batting line-up, you can clearly see that there are three segments that have been formed. The first is a world class top three that any team in the world would dream to have.
The third is a stellar group of finishers in Hardik Pandya, Kedar Jadhav and of course MS Dhoni. But then there is something amiss in the second segment, as the middle order of the Indian team will not frighten any bowling attack in the world.
India is still looking for solid batsmen at number four, which is still up for grabs. Rahul, Rahane and Pandey have been tried here but with not much success. The likes of Pandya have been given a shot at this spot as well, but he may not be ready just yet to bat at this number regularly.

This is what the Chairman of the selectors MSK Prasad had to say,
“The team management, the selection committee all of us are definitely concerned about it. And that’s the reason we are trying before a big event comes up or before we finalise a final squad for a major event,” said Prasad on Monday (October 22).
“By then we will try out different options, and there are some of the guys who are doing (well) at India A (level). We will keep trying options before we close on a particular squad,” he added.
“The potential that KL Rahul is, it is unfortunate that we are not able to accommodate, so we tried him at the number four slot, and unfortunate that it did not work out. But basically we know that KL Rahul is an opener. So since Ajinkya Rahane has done well, it makes sense to continue with Rahane and bring in a specialist at number four spot.”
