“Luka Doncic never says no”: Rick Carlisle has reportedly lost ‘thousands of dollars’ betting against the Mavericks star’s trickshots in warmups and practice

Luka Doncic has wowed us all with his ability to make trick shots in practice. Rick Carlisle says he’s now wary of ever betting against Luka.

The Dallas Mavericks escaped to an improbable victory against Memphis of late. They were 2 points down with 1.8 seconds remaining in the game and the ball in their hands.

The game wouldn’t have been in this winnable situation if it wasn’t for Grayson Allen – a 90% free throw shooter – missing both of his freebie attempts. These misses gave a window for Luka to attempt a prayer.

And a prayer it definitely seemed, the way Luka made probably the most impressive game-winner of his career. It was a leaning-in floater from behind the 3-point line that was practically a circus shot.

Rick Carlisle doesn’t bet against Luka Doncic making any trick shot any more

If you thought this shot was a one-off for Luka, you couldn’t be more wrong. We’ve seen Luka make all kinds of crazy trickshots in practice, warmups and even games.

The Slovenian seems to have a penchant for making some of the most ridiculous shots in basketball. Coach Rick Carlisle knows more about this than most, having lost thousands of dollars betting against Luka making a few of those:

“Anytime we walk into practice, and he’s sitting on a sitting on a table, getting stretched out behind a basket and says, ‘Hey, coach, if I make a shot, it’s no practice.’”

“And I was like, ‘Forget it. No way. He’s gonna make the shot and make shots on me.’ He’s just a very, very special and unique guy when it comes to these kinds of things.”

“He sees, he sees angles and possibilities. And as a belief system that very few of us can fathom. (It’s) pretty amazing stuff. He wasn’t (even) having a particularly good game.”
