“Like meeting Black Jesus”: Zion Williamson’s first encounter with Michael Jordan left the Pelicans rookie star-struck
Zion Williamson talks to Shannon Sharpe about the first time he got to meet Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan as a rookie at the All-Star Weekend.
Zion Williamson has been one of the most hyped prospects since before the 2019 NBA draft, where he was drafted first overall by the New Orleans Pelicans.
But while fans didn’t see a lot of him in his rookie season, Williamson has exploded into one of the best offensive players in the league this year. The player has developed into an incredible scorer and is averaging 26.9 points, and 7.2 rebounds this campaign.
The 20-year-old also has a very high-profile deal with Jordan brand to go along with his flashy career so far. And as many know, the owner of the brand is the arguable GOAT himself, Michael Jordan.
Sitting down with Shannon Sharpe, Zion Williamson recounted the first time he met the Bulls legend. And let’s just say, it is downright hilarious.
“It was like meeting Black Jesus”: Zion Williamson talks about his hilarious first impression of Michael Jordan
Throughout his career, Zion Williamson has proven to be one of the most charming players in the NBA. The Pelicans star’s interviews are almost always filled with joy and a sweet smile. And his recent interview with NBA analyst Shannon Sharpe was no exception.
During this interview, Sharpe asked Williamson about the first time he came face to face with Michael Jordan. And in response, the player opened up on a very funny anecdote.

It is absolutely understandable how Zion Williamson felt at that moment. No matter how big of a star you may be, you don’t get bigger than Michael Jordan.
Zanos most certainly isn’t the only ever NBA player to feel star-struck by His Airness. However, not many players have been so candid on their experience with the arguable GOAT. And honestly, we hope this interview prompts other NBA stars to come out with their hilarious experiences as well.
