PBKS vs SRH Man of the Match: Sunrisers Hyderabad wicket-keeper batsman played a match-winning innings in Chennai today.

During the 14th match of the ongoing 14th season of the Indian Premier League between Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad in Chennai, Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Punjab Kings by 9 wickets to register their maiden victory this season.

After Kings captain Lokesh Rahul won the toss and chose to bat, his team batted poorly yet again to score 120/10 in 19.4 overs. Starting with Rahul (4), Punjab lost wickets at regular intervals as their innings was bereft of any momentum.

With bowling figures of 4-0-21-3, Hyderabad fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed was the pick of their bowlers accounting for the dismissals of Mayank Agarwal (22), Fabian Allen (6) and Shahrukh Khan (22). Apart from Ahmed, all-rounder Abhishek Sharma also contributed in the bowling department with figures of 4-0-24-2.

Chasing a paltry 121-run target, Sunrisers never looked like facing any difficulty in the run chase. With wicket-keeper batsman Jonny Bairstow (63*) and captain David Warner (37) putting together an assuring 73-run opening partnership, Hyderabad were always meant to win the match barring any significant batting collapse.

Opening the batting for the second time in this season, Bairstow top-scored for Hyderabad yet again. While he got out in a similar chase in the last match, the right-hand batsman ensured that he remained unbeaten at the MA Chidambaram Stadium to win the ‘Man of the Match’ award.

“Absolutely over the moon to get us over the line. Been really close in most of the games, and haven’t got through. Probably through carelessness to be honest. Pleased to get over the line. Each game we’ve seen after the powerplay it’s gotten harder and harder. It was key to make sure we took advantage [of the powerplay],” Bairstow told Star Sports during the post-match presentation ceremony.
