While speaking to the Wrestling Observer Radio, Jericho admitted that there is a chance AEW may not be around by the time their television deal ends. However, he expressed more confidence in the exact opposite taking place instead, going so far to claim that AEW was already better than WWE.
Chris Jericho says AEW will become really dangerous for WWE
“There’s no guarantee that AEW will be around past our television deal ending, but if we keep doing the numbers we’re doing and telling the stories we’re telling, the next deal might be even bigger than the last one. Then you’re really dangerous, because our show is better than their show. I’m just telling you, I’m being completely honest, it’s better than their show.”
“As a result of that, I think people will continue to check us out, especially now since they don’t have to make a choice on a Wednesday. Last week wasn’t as good with the Presidential speech, but I think that we really shown that we did earn a chunk of that [NXT] fan base that now that they’ve sampled AEW they will continue to be there for us as we continue to grow.”
AEW have shown a steady increase since NXT moved to Tuesday nights. They raked in 1.219 million overnight viewers the first night they ran unopposed. The numbers dropped to 1.219 million overnight viewersan overnight average of 1.1 million viewers last week.
Their viewership noticed a huge decline this week with an average of 889,000 overnight viewers. With Blood and Guts coming up next week, the promotion will be hoping for a rise in viewership.
