“I’m definitely top 5”: Ja Morant confidently answers Shaquille O’Neal about his position among Stephen Curry and the NBA’s best guards
Ja Morant reveals where he believes he ranks amongst the top point guards in the NBA today on air with the Inside Crew.
There aren’t many hotter point guards than the Memphis Grizzlies’ Ja Morant right now. Ever since his first game in the NBA, the player has been electrifying to watch. His high-flying dunks, flashy play-making and overall flair have even compelled people to say he reminds them of a young Russell Westbrook mixed with a pre-MVP Derrick Rose. And we can’t really find it in ourselves to disagree with that.
Given the quality he is showing already on the court, many in the NBA community have stopped looking at his future. Instead, there are questions being raised about how high the 21-year-old ranks amongst the best in the league at his position right now. And the answer has seldom been below the top 10.
Recently, Morant got on air on TNT’s ‘Inside the NBA’. During this segment, Lakers legend Shaq asked the young star where he ranks himself among point-guards today. And let’s just say, his answer demonstrates to the world just how much confidence he packs in his 6’3” self.

“Top five, for sure”: Ja Morant believes that he ranks amongst the best at his position in the league
Morant during his first season was incredible. Along Jaren Jackson Jr., the then rookie almost led a previously lottery bound team to the postseason. Unfortunately for the franchise though, Jackson went down late last campaign with a serious injury that kept him sidelined until just recently.
Despite having no significant co-star during this time, Ja Morant kept the franchise squarely in the playoff hunt, with the team now standing proud at 9th in the West.
Recognizing this, many, including NBA legends have spoken highly of the player. But, it seems Shaq wasn’t interested in all that. He wanted to ask the Grizzlies’ star where he thought he ranked. And when he did, ask the question, just about every host on the panel during the episode loved the answer. Take a look.

At just 21-years-old, Ja Morant clearly has the confidence of a superstar, and supreme skill to go along with it. The Grizzlies have some young yet rapidly developing pieces to support him and Jaren Jackson Jr. as well.
With this young team already being as competitive as they are today, the future is looking very bright. And if the franchise plays its cards right, we could even see the team one day competing for an NBA championship.
