“Stephen Curry has changed the game for the better, but he’s also changed the game for the worse…”: CJ McCollum talks about the impact the Warriors’ star has had on the game of basketball
Portland Trailblazers’ star CJ McCollum believes the changes Stephen Curry brought to the game of basketball has their own pros and cons
Stephen Curry is the greatest shooter of all time, and there are no second thoughts about the same. Multiple NBA personalities, as well as broadcasters, believe the same as well. Curry, along with his Warriors, have changed the way the game is played in NBA and globally all along. When Curry was drafted in 2009, the highest attempts any team was taking from the 3 point line was 27.3 attempts per game. Skip forward to today, the lowest attempt any team is averaging this season is 28.6 attempts per game.
The numbers in themselves show us how much Stephen Curry and his Warriors have shown the league what the three-ball can achieve. The first ring that Stephen Curry and his Warriors won, it was largely due to their outstanding shooting from the deep, and their ability to perform so consistently. This led the other teams in the league, and globally, to rethink and change their methods.

In his latest podcast segment, CJ McCollum speaks about the impact Stephen Curry has had. On the ‘Pull Up’ podcast, CJ said,
I think Curry is the best pure scorer in the league right now, as it stands, because of how he scores. Moves without the ball, he can score in iso situations, he finishes well around the rim. He’s a 95 percent free throw shooter, so virtually automatic when he gets to the line. And he’s just a wizard. He’s someone you have to look for at all times. He does things and you literally think, like, how is that possible?
I think that he has changed the game for the better, but he has also changed the game for the worse, because a lot of kids are trying to replicate some of the things that he’s doing, and some of that stuff just isn’t virtually possible for kids. You have to get the reps in, you have to really practice your game, and as George Hill once said in the Finals, he said sometimes he just throws it up there and it appears as if God is just dropping it into the basket, which is very, very accurate at times.

What CJ said makes sense. While the game has been improved for the better, the players now just hope to shoot it like Curry. They often seem to forget the kind of effort he put in, and the hard work it took.
