“First of all, Actions Speak Louder than Words”- Monaco Grand Prix winner Max Verstappen did not hold back after overtaking Lewis Hamilton in the 2021 Drivers’ Standings.

Max Verstappen finally broke the ‘Curse of Monaco’ – unlike homeboy Charles Leclerc – to win the Grand Prix in Monte Carlo. The win was sweeter with Lewis Hamilton only managing P7 (and a bonus point for the fastest lap).

Hamilton recently suggested Verstappen is racing a bit too hard, alluding to their wheel-to-wheel battles in the races so far this season. Well, the Red Bull star was having none of it, speaking to Sky F1 after crossing the Serena Williams-waved chequered flag.

Well, first of all, Actions always Speak Louder than Words.

“That’s a good lesson after this weekend. You only have to talk on the track. That’s what I like.

“We as a team so far made the smallest mistakes. That’s why we are ahead. So I hope we can keep that going for the rest of the season.”

Max Verstappen leads WDC for the first time

The Monaco-based driver took his first-ever Monaco GP podium, also ensuring he leads the World Drivers’ Championship – 105 to Lewis’ 101 – for the very first time. He had finished P2 in the 2019 edition here, but a time penalty meant he dropped to P4. Hamilton had won that race, followed by the Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel and his Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas.

“It’s nice, I’ve never been on the podium here, and then first time straight away a win, so it’s a bit of redemption for all the other races here because I’ve never really had a lovely feeling on a Sunday here.

“We will need to see how competitive we’re going to be in Baku. Of course, there are a few lessons to be learned from here as well, how we started on Thursday – we don’t want that to happen there.

“We are competitive but Mercedes is still I think the one to beat. They are very quick on, let’s say, more normal tracks.

“But of course very happy with what we achieved as a team this weekend. We are leading the championship and I hope of course to be there at the end of the season because that’s the most important.”
