“Trae Young, Knicks will teach you a lesson”: New York City mayor slams Hawks star for not playing basketball the right way by drawing fouls
Bill de Blasio calls out Trae Young for hunting for fouls and claims he isn’t playing basketball the right way when going against the Knicks.
Perhaps the series that is most likely to go down to the wire out of all 8 Playoffs matchups would have to be the bout between the Atlanta Hawks and the New York Knicks. Both teams stack up quite well next to one another, with the Hawks relying on outright talent while the Knicks indulge in hard-nosed defensive schemes and guys off the bench.
Game 1 was a doozy as Julius Randle had a dud of a game, shooting 6-23 from the field, while committing several turnovers in the process. It was guys like Derrick Rose and Alec Burks who kept the Knicks within striking distance the whole time.
The Hawks on the other hand, had a more well-rounded game, with Trae Young at the helm having 32 points and the game-winning floater to silence the 15,000 in attendance at MSG. Despite the fact that Trae Young shot 8-10 on floaters, he did revert back to his old antics on drawing fouls when need be. This did not sit well with the Mayor of NYC.
Trae Young and his foul drawing has Bill de Blasio upset.
The rabid nature of New York Knicks fans most definitely carries over to the higher ups in the state as the mayor of New York City, Bill de Blasio, called out Trae Young for the way he initiates contact and draws fouls on defenders by driving his back into them near the foul line.

It’s quite fitting to the nature of New York Knicks fans to completely bash the opposing team’s star player after merely one game in a Playoff series. The ‘f**k you Trae Young’ chants were heard by Young loud and clear and he has clearly embraced a villain type role at the Garden.
If the Knicks were to lose this series, expect Trae Young to go down as one of the most hated figures in Knicks modern history.
