Lakers’ star Anthony Davis talks about his mindset while leading his team to a win in Game 2 of the first-round playoff series against the Phoenix Suns

The Los Angeles Lakers officially announce their arrival to the 2021 playoffs! After a very uncharacteristic Game 1, the Lakers came out strong tonight, winning Game 2 109-102, and tying the series. There were several factors that led to the Lakers securing the win, but the biggest one has to be Anthony Davis showing up. The 27-year-old big, after having a very forgettable Game 1, gave a performance to remember tonight. Davis scored a game-high 34 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and dished 7 assists. LeBron James had 23 points and 9 assists, while Dennis Schroder scored 24 points of his own.

As for the Suns, the minutes’ restriction on Chris Paul hurt them a lot, especially in clutch time. CP3 is the clutch guy in Phoenix, and with him on the court, the outcome could have been different. Devin Booker tried, scoring a team-high 31 points. DeAndre Ayton scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his double-double.

Anthony Davis came to prove a point

To rectify the errors of Game 1, Anthony Davis spent a lot of extra time in the gym yesterday. According to Lakers sources, he was the last guy out of the gym, and the Lakers had to leave a team bus for him to get back to the hotel. Looks like all that work paid off. Davis took his performance in Game 1 as his mistake, worked on it, and led the Lakers to a Game 2 win.

According to Davis, he had a ‘statement to make’ and he had to take on the responsibility as a leader does.

The series now heads to Los Angeles, where the next two games would be played at Staples Center. The defending champions would try to feed off the home crowd energy and get as many wins as they can before they have to head back to Phoenix.
