“Kevin Harlan, you’ve gone too far”: Lakers and NBA Fans react to TNT announcer’s antics ahead of the second quarter in Lakers vs Suns Game 6
Kevin Harlan was in his element ahead of the second quarter today. The TNT announcer made a gargling noise to illustrate a hilarious point.
TNT’s commentary teams often receive a ton of flak from NBA viewers. Marv Albert, Reggie Miller and Chris Webber were 3 of the most-maligned national TV announcers in the game. Albert’s age particularly seemed to rile NBA viewers, who wanted him off the job for several year.
Well, Marv is going to oblige all the haters and detractors soon enough by retiring this summer. Most NBA fans want Kevin Harlan to step into his role as TNT’s main national TV announcer, but it’s unclear who exactly replaces Albert on a consistent basis.
Harlan definitely has the pedigree and the voice to be a worthy successor for arguably the greatest announcer in NBA history. But Harlan also has a few of his own eccentricities, as he demonstrated during Lakers vs Suns Game 6 today.
Kevin Harlan begins 2nd quarter by mumbling indistinctly
The Lakers started the 2nd quarter trailing the Phoenix Suns by a whopping 22-point margin. By most accounts, the game was over after the first couple of minutes in the 1st quarter.
Sure, the Lakers are out there trying to reduce the deficit on the court. But they’re only succeeding in increasing the gap in points, if anything, in the 2nd quarter.
This means that Kevin Harlan can treat this game much like a blowout and let out some steam. And Harlan knew it as the second period started, which is perhaps the only explanation for his voice acting in the clip below.

Harlan really has gotten NBA Twitter going in the intervening period as fans start to zone out of the game and focus on other aspects of it, including the announcers’ crew.
