Azerbaijan GP Top Moments: What are the top 3 moments from the street race in Baku?
Azerbaijan GP Top Moments: The street race in Baku has thrown up some very explosive moments, and we’ve listed the three most talked about.
The Force India rivalry
The pairing of Sergio Perez and Esteban Ocon in 2017 was not getting along well for Force India, with the former not allowing Ocon to overtake him in his pursuit of Daniel Ricciardo in Canada.
Two weeks later, at Baku, both of them hit each other, with the team in a comfortable P4 and P5 position. This led to both drivers putting the blame on each other. To make things worse for Force India, this was not the last time they collided, as you can see in the video.
Charles Leclerc’ “I am stupid!”
Charles Leclerc was looking good during practice in the 2019 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, hoping to seal pole for Ferrari. But in the second session of qualifying, he crashed into the barriers, with Ferrari boss John Elkann watching in the pit garage. What followed was a rant from Leclerc, who at the time of writing, has won the pole in the 2021 edition at Baku, ahead of Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton.
“I deserve it. No excuses. I’ve been useless. I was stupid as I said on the radio and I still say it. I will push to have a better tomorrow. Sorry to all the people supporting us and even more to the whole team that deserved so much better.”

Ricciardo tried several times to overtake Verstappen, but in the crucial moment, he ended up crashing into the back of the Dutchman, leading to both drivers exiting the race, also subsequently, Ricciardo out of Red Bull, and on to Renault the following season.
