“Bet Charles Barkley won’t be able to eat that piece of bread in 30 seconds”: When Chris Webber and Ernie Johnson gave Chuck a food task that he failed on Inside the NBA

We’ve all seen quite a few gimmicks over the years on Inside the NBA. But few moments top the time when Chris Webber tricked Charles Barkley.

Many of us miss those days when Shaquille O’Neal hadn’t joined the Inside crew yet. The trio of Ernie, Kenny and Chuck defined Inside the NBA in the noughties. They also had a few featured guests, but this was their bread-and-butter trio.

This changed when Chris Webber retired from NBA play and joined TNT as an analyst. C-Webb was responsible for some of the best laughs we’ve had in years. With his Hall of Fame induction coming up and his broadcasting career at a standstill, it’s time to look back at one of those moments.

Chris Webber challenged Charles Barkley that he couldn’t eat a piece of bread in 30 seconds

Those were C-Webb’s early days on TNT following his retirement from the NBA after a stint with Golden State. Webber brought in a wholly different energy to their studio atmosphere, and many NBA fans liked his antics.

There are many classic Inside the NBA moments from the Webber era, but this one easily takes the cake. It features Webber baiting Chuck into eating a piece of bread in a hurry.

This piece of bread had a generous amount of peanut bread spread on it, which Chuck didn’t realize would be a problem. So Webber cunningly said,

“So Chuck, what I’d like to bet you, I will make a donation to your foundation. If you can eat one piece of bread in 25 seconds. You can’t drink water, that’s the only catch.”

“I will give you $5000 if you do it, cuz you’re not gonna be able to do it. But you’ll give my foundation $1000. Cuz you’re not gonna be able to do it. I’ll give you 30 seconds, let’s go!”

What happened next will have left readers in hysterics if you did look through the footage. Chuck could barely eat it and had to spit out his food into the dustbin having lost the bet.

C-Webb was a pretty great presence on studio even though he wasn’t the best color commentator. Perhaps they should’ve kept him with a studio role for longer.
