Lewis Hamilton contract extension: Reigning champion demands huge bonus from Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton contract extension talks involve a huge bonus if he wins the drivers’ championship and a long-term future in the Daimler hierarchy.
Lewis Hamilton is willing to take a pay-cut in a potential new contract with the Mercedes F1 team. The reigning champion currently has a deal at the end of the current season. The contract extension could see him drive for the constructors’ champions until 2023.
For this to happen though, it is being suggested that Hamilton wants a big bonus if he wins the drivers’ championship yet again. The Briton levelled the all-time record with Michael Schumacher after winning his seventh title last season. This season looks difficult though, as Red Bull’s Max Verstappen has taken the lead, both on the track and off.
Today was a humbling experience. We worked so hard to put ourselves back in the top 10 today after a rocky week here in Baku. We gave it our all today and a small error caused the brakes to switch off. Sorry to the team, we’ll come back stronger for the next race 🙏🏾 pic.twitter.com/oHy75S07L3

Lewis Hamilton wants bigger role in Daimler
Hamilton is also said to have asked for a future role in Mercedes’ parents Daimler. The role will enable him to work on a bigger scale for diversity in motorsports. He recently spoke about the challenges people of colour face in society, including his family.
“My dad, my brother and I were always the only people of colour, it was just normal for us. But we were always aware of it. It became normal for us, but at the beginning, it was very obvious to us that we weren’t always welcome.
“So, I have this commission, which shows you the challenges and barriers Black people in particular face, that white people perhaps don’t.
