“Luka Doncic will want to go if he doesn’t like it with Mavericks”: NBA analyst speculates that Mark Cuban’s wunderkind could bolt for New York Knicks
An NBA insider believes that a move for Luka Doncic to the Knicks has become increasingly imminent after massive changes within the Mavericks.
Luka Doncic has arguably been the third-best player in the NBA on several occasions during the last two years.
The Slovenian’s confidence is otherworldly. And having a fierce personality to go along with it, really only makes his style that much more dangerous.
Quite simply, he is one of those players that hate to lose more than anything else. And while most teams want that, it appears the Dallas Mavericks will wish they could press the pause button on it for a while.
You see, losing in the first round, in back-to-back playoff runs isn’t easy to deal with for most players. But, given Luka’s personality, it is likely it to have been infinitely harder for him. There were several shots of the star being livid about going down again this postseason. And well, it seems he might have finally reached his limit.
ESPN analyst and NBA insider Jay Williams recently commented on Luka Doncic’s contract situation. And it’s not something that fans of the Dallas Mavericks will want to hear.
Jay Williams believes that Luka Doncic will leave Dallas for the resurgent New York Knicks
It may finally be time to panic for the Dallas Mavericks.
To be fair here, Luka Doncic did give hints about possibly signing a Max extension with the franchise. However, how many times has a superstar given the same hints, before eventually joining a bigger market?
Now, according to most reports, there isn’t a specific team Luka has in mind. But, it seems Jay Williams believes otherwise. Here is what he said on the matter.
“Earlier in the year, I said New York could be a potential opportunity (for Luka), and people killed me for it. It’s feasible.”
Now before all the Knicks fans start rejoicing and saying they’re winning it all next year, the analyst also said this.
“These are feasible scenarios… You start looking where will Luka want to go and build if it doesn’t work out in Dallas. New York isn’t the only option. But I will say there’s a lot of rumblings. And (Mavericks owner) Mark Cuban needs to put water on that fire.”
There is a fire that needs to be put out indeed. General Manager Donnie Nelson and Head Coach Rick Carlisle recently parted ways with the franchise. Add to it that we still don’t know how well Kristaps Porzingis will turn out, and this whole situation gets a whole lot worse.
Frankly, the more we think about it, the more plausible this rumor gets. Will the Mavericks be able to convince the player to stay? Or will they be losing a potential all-time great in the oncoming months?
