“Ty Lue is a player’s coach”: Terance Mann’s mom accuses Doc Rivers of not instilling confidence in her son like Clippers’ current head coach
Terance Mann’s mom says that Ty Lue is a player coach who’s instilled confidence in her son, unlike a certain Doc Rivers.
The LA Clippers overcame injury to Kawhi Leonard in improbable fashion during the Conference Semifinals. They were able to take 2 wins on the bounce without the Klaw largely due to the contributions of Mann.
Terance Mann was inserted into their starting lineup after an impeccable run of games as a bench player in the first 11 games of the playoffs. Mann had played a crucial role in the Clippers’ small-ball lineups in the first round against the Mavs.
As a result, when Mann’s turn to start came, the 24-year-old was up and ready for the opportunity. Mann proceeded to show us all exactly what he’s made of in the 2 games to come. His 2 poster dunks on Rudy Gobert are as vicious as practically anything we’ve seen from Kawhi.
Terance Mann’s mom praises Ty Lue, criticizes Doc Rivers
Terance Mann comes from a basketball background. His mom has served as a coach at the college basketball level for women’s teams at D1 programs. She knows the ins and outs of the job and what a coach’s role is supposed to be.
She criticized Doc Rivers, who’s often been called a players’ coach in his time in the league while also heaping praise on Ty Lue:
“Last year, I don’t think he had a great player-coach relationship with Doc. I don’t think he got that confidence that he needed from Doc. And it’s the complete opposite from Ty Lue.”
“You know, Ty Lue is a player’s coach. Ty Lue pours confidence in his players, from No. 1 all the way to No. 12. So I think Ty Lue just telling Terance, “You need to shoot that shot.'”
In like a week, Terance Mann has gonna from a guy double clutching open corner 3s to breaking guys down and shooting fading elbow jumpers. Confidence is a hell of a drug.

“That’s all Terance really needed. He needs that coach to tell him what he needs, what is needed. And he’s going to run through a brick wall for any coach that gives him that coaching.”
