“Lou Williams is the best veteran Trae Young has ever had”: Hawks star’s dad Rayford Young praises 3-time Sixth Man of the Year for his role in improving Trae
Trae Young is on a tear in the playoffs, and his dad Rayford Young Sr attributes a ton of credit to the influence of hometown boy Lou Williams.
Lou Williams was the most beloved Clipper during his time in Los Angeles. He spurred the city to breathtaking heights as they consistently punched above their weight.
Sweet Lou’s scoring presence had become a little redundant in the Clippers’ deep lineup. Though he’d expressed his desire to retire with them, Lou was also charmed by the opportunity to return to Atlanta. He is, after all, a Georgia High School state champion.
Sweet Lou has been pivotal in the Hawks run to a 1-0 lead in the Conference Finals so far. He was the one who jumpstarted their famous 26-point turnaround in Game 5 of the Conference Semifinals.
When push came to shove, Lou produced his best playoff basketball ever in the volume that he was needed to do.
“Lou Williams is the best veteran Trae Young has ever had”: Rayford Young Sr
Senior was suitably stoked for his son’s Conference Finals debut ahead of their game last night. He posted the following message thanking the veteran and much-respected Lou Williams on Twitter:
“The best vet Trae has had “hands down.” No knock against the guys before him, but the conversations on & off the court with Lou Will have been career-changing. He’s told me Lou is the most humble ‘successful’ player he’s ever played with.”

And all of this praise is quite heartwarming for many of us basketball fans. After all, Lou Williams has been possibly one of the most underappreciated players of the past 5-6 years.
I would go so far as to say that if I ever was to insert a picture onto a description of a ‘microwave scorer’, it would undoubtedly be that of Lou Will.
