“Charles Barkley ran out of gas for his GUARANTEE button”: Inside the NBA crew are shocked to find out that their backroom staff didn’t prepare for this press of the guarantee button
Charles Barkley has been providing us all with some rare entertainment with his guarantees this year. But we may have seen the last of it.
The Chuckster has been one of the worst analysts across networks at predicting how this year’s playoffs will shape up. The one prediction he got right after a string of them that went wrong was regarding the Bucks’ Game 7 win over the Nets.
Chuck has been on the Bucks’ hype train for a while now. He definitely wants Giannis to go and get his dues this year owing to the weakened field and competition he’ll face.
We’re betting that he wanted some good old confetti to invade the studio like the last time he hit it. Maybe even a performance by Atlanta’s finest drummers would’ve worked out. But nothing of that sort eventually took place.
Charles Barkley hits the guarantee button, but nothing happens
Chuck rode on the Bucks’ train for Game 1 of this series, taking them on the 8-point spread for the night on FanDuel’s free bet for the Eastern Conference Finals:
“I’m riding this train all the way to Milwaukee and I’m taking the mean streets. I’m taking the Bucks tonight and giving the Hawks 8 points (on the spread).”
Kenny and Shaq nudged the Chuckster to go on and press the guarantee button. Barkley didn’t need much convincing, and after smashing the button, he recoiled in anticipation of a new gimmick by the TNT backroom staff. But it never came about.
All that happened was the Chuckster graphic coming up and screaming ‘Yeah!’ as usual. The cameras, meanwhile, panned to a member of the background staff who was seated at Studio J.
This man rose and walked up to Shaq with a paper cup and a few bits of torn paper. Before we knew it, he’d dumped those torn bits onto Chuck’s suit and walked back to his table.
Chuck feigned some mock indignation at being deprived of what he thought would be his next visual treat. And in fairness, he spoke for all of us when was blasting TNT:
“Come on man! TNT, y’all cheating. Stop spending all of your money on all of them Law and Order reruns.”
