Ranji Trophy 2021 start date: BCCI have announced the schedule of the upcoming Indian domestic season for men’s and women’s.

India’s domestic season 2021-22 will commence from September 21 with the Senior Women’s One Day League. The 37-team tournament will be played between September 21 – October 22 and will clash with India Women’s tour of Australia.

The development has come as a massive boost for bountiful domestic cricketers who were hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic last year. “The BCCI is confident of hosting the domestic season with health and safety of players and all people involved being paramount,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a statement.

The business end of the season-opener will witness the start of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, senior men’s T20 competition which will be played among 38 teams between October 20 – November 12. Readers must note that it will be the second Mushtaq Ali tournament which to be played in the calendar year 2021.

In women’s cricket, the season-opener will soon be followed by a four-team Senior Women’s One Day Challenger Trophy which will start from October 27.

Ranji Trophy 2021 start date

The prestigious Ranji Trophy, which had been brought to a halt for the first time since its inception last year, will resume this year and will be played between November 16 – February 19.

Ranji Trophy will be followed by men’s One-Day competition, Vijay Hazare Trophy, which will start less than a week after the culmination of the first-class tournament on February 23.

While BCCI had conducted the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy last season, the absence of Ranji Trophy lad affected the players drastically as far as finances are concerned. It goes without saying that a first-class tournament is more rewarding for domestic players than a List A or T20 tournament.

As of now, BCCI haven’t mentioned anything about Duleep and Irani Trophy. Given the already packed calendar, it will be interesting to see how the cricket board makes space for these two reputable competitions.
