After a lot of pondering between BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) and CA (Cricket Australia) with respect to the COVID-19 situation in Bangladesh, Australia’s tour of Bangladesh 2021 has finally been confirmed by both the boards.

Australia, who have never played a bilateral T20I series against Bangladesh, will tour the Asian country for the first time since 2017 to play as many as five T20Is at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

While BCB were keen to host Australia for a multi-venue series, the rising COVID-19 cases in Bangladesh played a hindrance regarding the same.

“The BCB and Cricket Australia have worked tirelessly together for confirming the itinerary. Naturally this was a challenge due to the COVID-19 pandemic as ensuring health safety and security is a priority prerequisite for holding any cricket series in these times.

“I am pleased to say that a comprehensive bio-security plan is in place and will be implemented during the tour for the protection of players and staff of the two teams and the match officials,” BCB CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury said in a statement.

Bangladesh vs Australia T20Is schedule and fixtures

Australia, who are currently in West Indies, will travel directly from Barbados to Dhaka. Bangladesh, on the other hand, will travel back home from Harare after the completion of their three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe starting from today.

Having played a total of four T20Is against each other since the inception of the format, Bangladesh and Australia locking horns in five T20Is next month will be their first time against each other since the ICC World Twenty20 2016.

August 3 – Bangladesh vs Australia, 1st T20I

August 4 – Bangladesh vs Australia, 2nd T20I

August 6 – Bangladesh vs Australia, 3rd T20I

August 7 – Bangladesh vs Australia, 4th T20I

August 9 – Bangladesh vs Australia, 5th T20I

While the hosts are yet to announce their squad, Australia will play with the same bunch of 20 players who had played most recently in the West Indies. With an ICC T20 World Cup to be played in similar conditions later this year, Australia will have to manage without their first-choice players in what is most likely to be their last series before the world event.
