“We should just have a qualifying format in Monaco”– Daniel Ricciardo gives bizarre suggestions to make the Monaco Grand Prix interesting.

The Monaco Grand Prix maybe is the most glamorous and iconic race of the year, but it has the potential to be the boring most race of the year, the reason being- it’s a street circuit with narrow lanes, so overtaking is near to impossible.

Therefore, Daniel Ricciardo has suggested that the Monaco Grand Prix can be converted into a three-day-long qualifying weekend and judge the winner following it.

“We need to start racing on bigger tracks. We should just have a qualifying format in Monaco. Just a three-day qualifying and the best lap from the three days is just [the winner]. Just like a shoot-out for three days,” said Ricciardo in a McLaren’s video online.

The current Grand Prix schedule can no longer work in Monaco

With every passing year, the F1 cars are getting better and bigger, so the streets of Monte Carlo can hardly afford them to run overall at once; neither it is as developed as other street circuits and follows the 20th-century route.

There have been talks about widening the road in future, but it isn’t possible after an extent, as several buildings other limitations surround it.

On the other hand, Ricciardo’s suggestion makes sense. The qualifying is often the most entertaining session of the Monaco Grand Prix, with teams pushing the maximum across the narrow lanes.

It remains to be seen how F1 approached the future Monaco Grand Prix. Still, if the same circuit had given a race proposal in the present day, surely it would have failed all the safety standards of FIA; the heritage of the track is still keeping it alive in the calendar.
