“It doesn’t really feel like my strongest season in F1″– Carlos Sainz believes he lost some crucial points and can do more with Ferrari.

Carlos Sainz joined Ferrari this year and had an immediate impact on the setup, with the Spaniard even outscoring Charles Leclerc in his first year with the Maranello based team, and have already fetched two podiums this season.

Yet, Sainz, sitting P6 on the table, believes that he missed some crucial points in his Ferrari and can do more with the car; also, it made him conclude that he is not having a strong season in F1.

 “It doesn’t really feel like my strongest season in F1. I feel like I’ve missed out on points and opportunities here and there,” he told Motorsport.com.

“I think I said before the race in Hungary that I feel like I haven’t really maxed out for a weekend yet. I haven’t been able to string a whole weekend together as a Ferrari driver and that’s something I used to do well.”

“Maybe it has to do with being part of a new team. It just takes time to maximise weekends.”

Mattia Binotto is satisfied with Carlos Sainz.

Among all the drivers who made their debut or switched their teams this season, Sainz seemed to be the most comfortable with the new setup, which has made Ferrari a strong contender in the midtable battle.

It is even more impressive because Sainz had a radical shift from McLaren’s setup powered by Renault’s engine to an overall new Ferrari’s setup.

Yet, he looked sharp from the season’s first race in Bahrain, and from thereon, Ferrari has given better performances than their abysmal 2020 campaign.

Now the duo of Leclerc and Sainz look forward to 2022, where apparently Ferrari is deploying its most resources.
