“Seb will be one of those”– Fernando Alonso says his name will go down with Sebastian Vettel in the history books of Formula 1.

Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel had an intense rivalry in the early phase of the last decade, but the young German driver back then dominated F1 for whole four years before Mercedes eclipsed his era.

Talking about those peak days, Alonso claims that his name will go along with Vettel in the history books of F1. Moreover, he talks about the mutual respect they two have for each other.

“Honestly, there is a lot of respect between us,” Alonso said. “We have fought hard sometimes on track and we’ve fought for some Championships as well.”

“All of those were on Seb’s side, from 2010 to 13, but still, I think, we show this respect when we meet each other on track. It’s not only what you see on Sundays,” he added.

“There are lot of things that are happening on Fridays and Saturdays and I consider it a privilege to share the track with most of the guys here in F1, but especially with guys like Seb.”

“It is something that will come with me, or with us, forever, there are some names that go alongside your career and Seb will be one of those.”

Now in the twilight or new dawn?

Fernando Alonso exited from F1 in 2018 only to come back in 2021; at the same time, Sebastian Vettel looked that he might be approaching his last days in F1 while he struggled with Ferrari in 2020.

But things have certainly changed this year for both drivers, with Alonso displaying his newfound self-belief, and Vettel is looking solid at P12 in the drivers’ standings with Aston Martin.

The German race driver would have had better points and a P10 in the championship standings if his podium finish hadn’t been stripped in Hungary.
