“You can’t say things like you used to could say”: Lakers’ legend Shaquille O’Neal talks about cancel culture, and how it terrifies him
Lakers’ legend Shaquille O’Neal talks about cancel culture, how it is a plague, and how it has affected all industries alike
With the increased popularity of social media among all ages, any and everything one does is always being monitored. This led to the start of the cancel culture. Cancel culture basically means to shun out someone from a circle, be it online, social, or in person. The person being shunned out is ‘cancelled’.
One cannot find many things that scare NBA legend, Shaquille O’Neal. The 7’1 big man was basically fearless in the NBA. He was always up to take on any opponent, and he dominated the majority of all matchups too. Even after his life on the court ended, his studio life is no different. Shaq is just as competitive and fearless. However, recently, he revealed something that scares him quite a lot.
Shaquille O’Neal reveals how he’s terrified of the cancel culture
Shaquille O’Neal is a person who is known to speak what’s on his mind. The 4x NBA Champion has made his reputation as a no BS person. He is known for his outgoing personality, childish nature, and his forever willingness to give back to the community.
Recently Shaquille O’Neal talked about something that bothers him a lot. The way Shaq is, cancel culture is something that constantly terrifies him. One wrong statement, even if said as a joke, can lead to the masses ‘cancelling’ him.
“I try to tell people I’m a real model, not a role model. Everybody makes mistakes. When I make a mistake, I want you to learn from my mistake. I probably won’t make a purposeful mistake, I may make an accidental mistake, but I try to be as respectful and righteous as I can. Times are different. You can’t say things like you used to could say.”

At the end of the day, it’s respect that comes at the top. As Shaq said it, respect cannot be cancelled.
