BREAKING: Indian cricketers set to get a 100% pay hike!
In what comes in as great news for players in the Indian setup(domestic as well as international), BCCI is all set to provide the players with a 100% pay hike, after multiple meetings with the CoA and top Indian players.
MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri had a meeting with all stakeholders two weeks ago, where the proposition of a hike in the salary was discusses, and the BCCI has now decided to act on it and roll out the new salary slabs by the end of this year.
The CoA is working on a strategy to pump in 200 crores into the already existing basket of Rs 180 crore, that was meant to be shelled out as salaries to the Indian players.
Ganguly had batted for increase in salaries for domestic players as well, and he was well supported by the trio of Dhoni, Kohli and Shastri, who wanted players in the domestic circuit to feel more valued, and so that they get more incentive towards playing the longest format of the game.
The present allocation of BCCI’s revenue(26% of their revenue has been allocated for players):
- 13% for international players
- 10.6% for domestic players
- Rest for women and junior players
The exact allocation is yet to be finalised, but the existing pool of money is almost certain to be doubled, providing all players with a 100% hike.
“Senior cricketers are certainly going to get a 100% raise and even domestic players would get the same percentage increase,” as reported by TOI.
“Since, these cricketers are the reason for BCCI’s revenues, can’t the board afford another Rs 200 crore for their salaries?” a board official was quoted
BCCI and the CoA, along with inputs from top Indian cricketers has been working towards a better pay out model for sometime now, and hopefully the new amendment can incentivise more players to take up the game as a profession.
