WATCH: South Africa release a wonderful video for the South Africa-India Freedom Series
The South Africa vs India Test series is set to begin on the 5th of January, with these two nations, who at the moment sit at the top of the ICC Test rankings.
The Indian side is touring South Africa after a break of 4 years and have been without a Test Series win in South Africa for 25 years.
Sony Pictures Sports Network came up with a promotional video in order to build some hype around the series, but it wasn’t very well received by the Indian audience, as it seemed that the idea of revenge was being forced upon the audience.
India and South Africa have always shared a great relationship, politically and otherwise. Cricket has played a huge role in bringing the countries closer in the 21st century and that is exactly what South Africa’s promo for the ‘Freedom Series’ suggests.
The promotional video put up by the South African media highlights the ‘Gandhi connection’ between the two countries.
This is followed by a video of the Indian team touring South Africa in 1992 to become the first nation to tour South Africa after the end of the Apartheid era.
While the Indian media is trying to use ‘revenge’ as a way of attracting more eyeballs to the South Africa-India series, the South African media are trying to highlight the close bond between these two cricketing nations and how the ‘Freedom series’ is a celebration of that bond.

The first Test begins on the 5th of January at Cape Town.
