Harbhajan Singh wants to introduce Yo-Yo tests for the Punjab team
The Yo-Yo test has gained a lot of attention over the last few months, as the BCCI have made it compulsory for cricketers to pass the test.
In what has been one of the features of the Virat Kohli regime, fitness has become an extremely important component of this Indian side.
Kohli himself has set an example for the rest of the side, as the Indian skipper has made fitness one of his top priorities. He also made it very clear that no cricketer who fails the test will be even considered for selection.
This has become a hurdle for the likes of Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina, as the former stalwarts of the Indian side failed to pass the Yo-Yo test. While Raina has eventually passed the test, Yuvraj is still struggling to clear it, with his lack of natural fitness playing a big part.

Now we learn that Harbhajan Singh wants to make the Yo-Yo test a compulsory feature in the Punjab cricket team as well.
“We can’t have players who can just bat and bowl. They have to be fit enough to play. At times, during this Ranji season, the intensity was very low. So, I thought enough is enough. Drop in energy levels leads to drop in performance and that leads to poor results. You just can’t have up and down results in alternate matches,” said the Punjab team captain, Harbhajan Singh, while speaking to Times of India.
“It is clear that Punjab cricket is growing at the U-19 level, but it is not getting converted at the Ranji Trophy level. We found out that fitness was a major issue. When we suggested this (implementing the Yo-Yo test) to the Punjab Cricket Association, they were very excited about it and urged us to enact it immediately.”
