JUST IN: Virat Kohli fined for breaching ICC Code of Conduct during the 2nd Test
Virat Kohli has been fined by the ICC for breaching Level 1 of the ‘ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel’.
The Indian skipper has been fined 25% of his match fee and has been given one demerit point for approaching the match referee in an unruly manner after the end of day’s play on the 3rd day of the second test.
Virat Kohli was unhappy with the match officials for having asked the teams to resume play after the rain halt, as the outfield was still very wet. India had been working hard on the ball in order for it to reverse later on in the innings, but with the ball getting wet every time it travelled across the face of the surface, it was getting extremely difficult for the Indians to get the ball ‘ready’ for reverse swing.
Kohli was absolutely devastated and furious with the decision of taking the field so early after the rain delay.
He has pleaded guilty to the offence and has accepted the fine(and the punishment), and thus no formal hearing was needed.
The on-field umpires, third umpire and the fourth umpire levelled the charges on Virat Kohli.
Kohli would be hoping to put this behind him and concentrate on leading his side to victory against South Africa, in order to level the series!
