Toni Nadal feels Roger Federer is a better player than Rafael Nadal
Toni Nadal and Rafael Nadal’s professional relationship came to an end last season, a relationship that flourished on the ATP circuit, taking Rafa to the summit of the Tennis world and causing the incumbent Roger Federer a lot of issues all through.
Rafa has had a better head-to-head record against Roger in his career, however, Toni Nadal believes that Roger is the better player and probably even the greatest of all time.
“Right now, Roger is the best of all time,” Toni Nadal said.
“Nobody did what he achieved. Rod Laver was also very good, but no one has won 20 Grand Slam titles, a Davis Cup victory, and many other victories.
“Rafael has also won 16 majors, triumphed four times in the Davis Cup – but Federer is better, he’s the best!” he added.
Roger Federer has been playing like a dream ever since his comeback, winning 3 Grand slam titles, reclaiming the number 1 spot and recently winning the Laureus Sportsperson of the year award(along with the comeback of the year award).
“Of course I want my nephew to be at the top of the list – not Federer. But of course Roger is an exceptional player, it’s unbelievable what he has achieved in his old age. He is a special tennis player, has a great serve, a great forehand. I think he can play at this level for a while longer.” Toni Nadal said.
When asked if Nadal could replicate Roger’s success at this age, Toni felt that Rafa could win at 36 too, if his body allowed him to.
“I can not say that yet,” he said.
“But if his body is involved, I do not exclude anything. On the other hand, there are many young professionals moving up.
“But if Rafael sees the opportunity to win big tournaments, it is possible that he will play for a few more years.” he concluded.
