IPL 2018 opening ceremony set to be rescheduled due to budget cuts
The eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League is just around the corner, as the biggest domestic cricket competition in the world returns to the delight of cricket lovers all across the globe.
The tournament is set to kick off on April 7th in Mumbai, as the defending champions Mumbai Indians will host the returning Chennai Super Kings.
There is a lot of buzz and hype around the returning duo of Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings, as the former champions will return after serving a two year ban.
Reports are now coming in that the IPL opening ceremony will be postponed by a day, and will now take place on April 7th just before the opening match at the Wankhede Stadium.

This was done as the behest of the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators’ (CoA).
“Earlier the opening ceremony was scheduled for April 6 at the Cricket Club of India. Now it has been decided by the CoA that it will happen on April 7 at Wankhede before the 2018 IPL opener,” a BCCI functionary told The Indian Express.
“Earlier the budget for the opening ceremony was Rs 50 crore (approved by the IPL governing council), now it has been reduced to Rs 30 crore. This call, too, has been taken by the CoA,” he said.
It has been many years since the opening match followed the mega ceremony, with the last one taking place almost ten years ago. While some people may be dissapointed with this change, the people that were planning on going for the opening match will now get a huge treat!
