Sebastian Vettel questions Liberty Media’s tactics
Liberty Media has tried shaking up the sport of Formula One by bringing about its own set of changes with respect to F1’s marketing, grid girls and even coverage timings.
Races will now begin 10 minutes later than they used to and grid girls have been replaced by grid kids, something that doesn’t really appeal or make sense to the ‘traditionalist’ fan, who is set in his/her own ways.
Vettel too is like that traditionalist fan, who doesn’t understand the need for these rather ‘silly’ changes.
While the change in race timings can be attributed to broadcasters demanding a 10 minute window to provide a pre-race show, replacing the grid girls with grid kids hasn’t been provided with any kind of rationale.
“I think I’m a traditionalist and I like to hold on to certain things,” Vettel said.
“There’s a lot of things I’m not a specialist in and I don’t need to understand.
“I’m confused why the races start later, a bit sad that there are no more grid girls but other than that not many changes yet. From a driving point of view there’s obviously not that much that has changed.” he added.
Vettel is though all in for promoting the sport amongst the masses and fondly remembers the ‘F1 live’ in London last year, wherein 19 drivers took part in a street demonstration.
“I think it’s great to see and I heard last year continuously around the track people supporting us,” he said.
“There were more things to do, it was a bit more fun, which I think is great.” he concluded.
