Virat Kohli talks about RCB not retaining Chris Gayle
The 11th edition of Indian Premier League has begun with a thriller match between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.
Everyone seems excited for the rest of the tournament but one question still haunting the RCB fans since the auction in January, as they hope not to rue Royal Challengers Bangalore’s decision to not retain the opener Chris Gayle or buy him at auction.
This decision surprised many fans all over because Gayle had given many memorable moments to the fans.
He is a batsman who has the ability to win two or three matches single-handedly and is also regarded as the best batsman in the shortest format of the game and he is the only one to score 10,000 in T20 format.
Gayle is a very dangerous batsman and a nightmare for every bowler. He has won many matches for the franchise in the past season, but he has been a bit off color with the bat in the recent times.
RCB’s skipper Virat Kohli revealed the reason why the management decided to give up on Gayle.
“He has done a great job for RCB over the past few years but looking at the team dynamics for the next three years the decision was taken. We thought of infusing new people who will give us the kind of balance we require,” Virat said.
“I do not want to take anything away from Chris as we just decided to go in with the balance that can sustain the team in the next three years. We did not want to be relying on two or three people all the time,” he added.
These comments from Kohli certainly came at the back of RCB’s performances last year. The team heavily relied on their batsman and didn’t have enough in the bowling to win games.
RCB had a disastrous season last year and ended up last on the points table.
RCB will play their first match of IPL 2018 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday (8th April) at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
