Rajnikanth does not want CSK to play matches in Chennai
CSK’s highly anticipated match against KKR is under threat tonight, as a group of protesters have locked one gate of the Chepauk stadium.
The Cauvery dispute is threatening to spoil the match tonight, as the lack of water in the state is a major worry for the distressed farmers and locals in Chennai.
As reported by Deccan Chronicle, superstar Rajnikanth also had a say on the matter, as he felt that the IPL has returned at the wrong time to Chennai.
“It will be nice if IPL is not played this time in Chennai, understanding the plight of the farmers due to severe shortage of water,” he told journalists outside his house before heading to the protest site.
“The CSK (Chennai Super Kings) franchise should think over the issue and appreciate the fact that the time is not ripe for IPL in Chennai,” he said. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi must step in and set up the river management board without any delay in the interest of small and marginal farmers of Cauvery delta region of Tamil Nadu.
The sharing of the Cauvery water is a very sensitive issue for both states, as both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have long faced a problem in this aspect. Karnataka faced one of their worst droughts last year, which is why the Supreme marginally increased the amount of water supply to Karnataka.
Now Tamil Nadu is facing a huge crisis, and it will be interesting to see how the top court reacts to this. Either way, cricket is the one that suffers over here, which is a real shame for everyone involved.
