Toni Nadal open to coaching Novak Djokovic
Toni Nadal and Rafa Nadal parted ways after Roland Garros last year, ending one of the most successful partnerships in Tennis.
Toni has enjoyed some off time from the sport, after years of gruelling travel and pressure on tour, but is now open to a coaching role on tour again.
He has expressed his interest in coaching Novak Djokovic, who has lost his mojo on tour, also undergoing a ‘coaching staff’ crisis.
Novak had earlier gotten rid of his entire coaching staff and hired Andre Agassi as part-time coach instead.
Later, Radek Stepanek too joined in on the coaching team, but with results not going according to plan, Novak parted ways with Agassi and Stepanek as well.
Ever since returning from his 6 month long injury layoff, Djokovic has a dismal 5-4 record on tour and is searching for that one breakthrough tournament that can put his career back on track.
While Djokovic has recruited former coach Marian Vajda back into his coaching staff, Toni Nadal is also open to joining Djokovic’s coaching team.
“It would be hard to say no to someone like Djokovic,” Toni Nadal said, as quoted by Eurosport
“It will not happen because he will never invite me. But, if the invitation happens, I would be happy to help him out and go with him to tournaments.
“I will never follow any other player with the same intensity with which I accompanied my nephew, but I could help Djokovic out, no doubt.” he added.
Can you imagine Toni Nadal sitting in Djokovic’s camp when he takes on Nadal in Roland Garros?
