“It would be terrible” – Messi opens up on Neymar’s transfer rumours
Barcelona’s Lionel Messi has said that it would be “terrible” to see Neymar joining Real Madrid.
Neymar left FC Barcelona last summer in football’s most expensive transfer deal. Now, his links with Real Madrid are growing stronger. Various reports suggest that Neymar will rewrite history as the most expensive player in history, as Real Madrid prepares massive deal for the Brazilian forward.
Neymar spent four years at FC Barcelona, and now, Lionel Messi has admitted that he would not like to see his former teammate at Real.
Barcelona star forward spoke about Neymar’s transfer rumours to TyC Sports. “It would be terrible, because of everything he means to the club,”, Lionel Messi said.
The Argentine emphasised that signing Neymar would make Real Madrid stronger. “Ney won important trophies here. He won the Champion League and La Liga. It would make Real Madrid even stronger from footballing point of view,” Messi told TyC Sports.
Neymar, in his four years at the Catalan club, won two league titles and a UEFA Champions League title. Since joining Paris Saint Germain, he appeared in 30 games, scoring 28 goals.
The Brazilian forward is currently recovering from a serious ankle injury, which he suffered in February.
Messi also talked about his own future at Barcelona. “I am not tempted to leave Barcelona. I will not be better anywhere else, this is the best team in the world,” Messi said.
Messi said that he doesn’t need to leave Barcelona to prove anything. “Every year I fight to win everything. I do not need to go to another team to prove anything,” Messi stressed.
Messi and Neymar will be playing against each other in the FIFA World Cup this summer, as Argentina and Brazil chase the world cup.
Messi also talked about his competition with Cristiano Ronaldo. “I don’t compete with him. It stimulates me to see Real Madrid in Champions League final again, to see them winning leagues,” Messi said.
