Mithali Raj becomes first Indian cricketer to score 2,000 T20I runs
The Indian women’s team captain achieved the feat during the match against Sri Lanka in T20 Asia Cup.
Mithali Raj has become the first Indian cricketer to reach 2000 runs in T20 internationals. She went past the 2000-run mark against Sri Lanka in the T20 Asia Cup, at Kuala Lampur.
Raj has now scored 2015 runs in 74 T20 internationals, with an impressive average of 38. Amongst Indian cricketers, the men’s team captain Virat Kohli is closest to Mithali Raj, with 1983 runs in T20Is.
India defeated Sri Lanka by 7 wickets, as Raj scored 23 runs.
Mithali Raj made her T20I debut against England in 2006. Since, in 74 matches, she has scored 14 half centuries, with a highest score of 76*.
The Indian captain is the seventh woman cricketer to reach 2000 runs in T20 internationals. The list is topped by legendary English cricketer Charlotte Edwards (2,605 runs). Stefanie Taylor (2,582) and Suzie Bates (2,515) come next in the list.
Amongst men’s cricketers, only two players have score more than 2,000 runs in T20Is, both coming from New Zealand. Martin Guptill (2,271) and Brendon McCullum (2,140) top the men’s list.

The International Cricket Council also wished Mithali Raj on being the first Indian cricketer to reach the 2000-run mark in international T20s.
