Shaquille O’Neal, Who Couldn’t Pronounce Giannis ‘Antetokounmpo’, Mispronounces OKC Star Shai ‘Gilgeous’ Alexander as ‘Gilchrist’
Both Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley are notoriously renowned for their inefficiency to pronounce certain names and words which come from the only language they know.
It doesn’t matter if it’s a name of a superstar like Giannis Antetokounmpo or Kawhi Leonard back in the day when ‘The Klaw’ was new to the league, Chuck and Shaq have been killing them all for years.
The latest casualty is one of the league’s best players this season, Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Shaquille O’Neal calls Shai Gilgeous-Alexander ‘Gilchrist’
Tuesday night, on the sets of “Inside the NBA”, it happened again. Shaquille O’Neal again missed pronounced a star player’s name and this time it’s the OKC’s 6ft 6’ point guard – Shae Gilgeous-Alexander, and called him ‘Gilchrist’.
Agreed the man’s name is not usual, but it’s not as complicated for somebody to pronounce it in their full consciousness. But Sir Charles doubled down on his fellow analyst’s mistake while advocating for SGA starting in the All-Star Game.
Watch it here.
It’s getting indigestible nowadays. Isn’t it? Find something new to be funnier, you big giants. We know, you can do it.
SGA’s rise to stardom
Despite losing on their second pick of this year’s draft, Chet Holmgren to a season-ending injury, OKC’s 24-year-old guard has been running riot on NBA teams single-handedly with his terrifically clutch performances every other night.
The man’s erupting right now offensively with 31 points (4th in the league) and 6 assists per game while also averaging 5 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander this season:
32 PTS, 30 PTS, 31 PTS, 30 PTS, 15 PTS, 42 PTS, 37 PTS, 37 PTS, 20 PTS, 39 PTS, 33 PTS, 18 PTS, 37 PTS, 34 PTS, 38 PTS, 24 PTS, 33 PTS, 28 PTS, 32 PTS

Hence, as Chuck said, if that could not get him a starting position in the All-Star game, then the voting system got to get changed. But we are still a couple of months away from when it starts, a lot can happen by that time.
