Christian Horner ‘mistakenly’ awards Rookie of the Year to Mercedes’ Toto Wolff
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner took a jab at his former arch-rival, Toto Wolff, during the Autosport Awards ceremony. Wolff and he are true competitors with the rivalry going off the track as well.
Red Bull had an amazing year winning both the driver’s and constructors’ world championships. Moreover, it was crucial for the team as the last time they won the constructors’ championship was in 2013.
The Autosport award had plenty of guests from the Formula One world with the likes of Sebastian Vettel to Max Verstappen. Where Vettel won the lifetime achievement award for his contributions to motorsport.
Guanyu Zhou wins the Rookie of the Year award
Guanyu Zhou won the Rookie of the Year award with a good season from a rookie’s perspective in 2022. He scored six points for the team compared to Valtteri Bottas’ 46 points.
However, one of the highlights for the Chinese driver was when he scored his first points in his first race at the Bahrain Grand Prix. Five more points later, it seems like Alfa Romeo took the right decision.
Although he was not able to compete with the former Mercedes driver in the same car, it was a successful outing for the driver. He will be looking to score more points during the new season.
Means a lot! keep going 2023! https://t.co/OrWMbceBhI

Christian Horner’s cheeky dig at arch-rival Toto Wolff
Red Bull boss Christian Horner gave Guanyu the Autosport Award for the Rookie of the Year. The award itself came with a little cheeky joke from Horner’s end.
The British boss had Toto Wolff in his mind while giving away the award. Instead of naming Zhou Guanyu, he said Mercedes’s boss’ first name instead.
This cheeky dig did not go unnoticed as fans from around the globe on social media could not believe it. Despite the season coming to a conclusion, Toto Wolff is still in the Red Bull team principal’s mind.
