Carlos Sainz thinks 6-time Moto GP champion would be like Ayrton Senna in F1

Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz has honoured someone outside Formula 1 by comparing them to Brazillian legend Ayrton Senna.

Senna had a unique driving style that made him the fastest on the grid even though he used unconventional methods of racing.

In an interview, Sainz said that he has no doubt that 6-time Moto GP champion Marc Marquez would be like Ayrton Senna if he were in F1.

The Spaniard said that Marquez is the only one whom he had seen do impossible things like Senna in high-speed racing.

Marquez who drives for the Repsol Honda team repaid the honour to Sainz by comparing him to Pecco Bagnaia of MotoGP.

Drawing comparisons between the two, Marquez said that the careers of both drivers exploded slowly and now both of them are at the top or near the top.

Carlos Sainz hopes to make a strong start in 2023

Sainz was in contention for the championship title in 2022 but his mistakes early in the season saw him fall down the grid.

He suffered multiple retirements and finished 62 points behind his teammate Charles Leclerc in P5. Sainz admitted that when the car was fast he was slow and by the time he settled with his machinery, Ferrari saw a loss in pace.

The Spaniard said that the 2022 season has been a nightmare for him but he is still keeping his head high and hoping to make a strong return next season.

Sainz wants a return to consistency

Sainz secured the first win of his career in 2022 but still, his performance was not too consistent. While the 2022 season was one of the most consistently successful campaigns of his career, the Spaniard sees it as a nightmare of a season.

But this experience taught him what it takes to win a race in F1 and fight at the top. Going forward his next step is to ensure a consistent result, which he believes he was able to achieve in 2021.
